Angadi Theru

Hey dudes..I am back again with the review for the latest movie titled "Angadi Theru" directed by Vasanthabalan. Its really fascinating to see many directors coming up with story as the main theme( ofcourse it is how it should be but its the inverse in this era ). If you want me to make a comment in oneliner, i will defenitely say "Its not a commercial movie".

Cinema-a medium in which u can record your memories or memories of someone visually. With so many commercial elements around Movies with the kind of perception of recording one's life has come down siginificantly. But this movie describes the life style and work culture(is there one?) of sales people who r from rural areas working in chennai. Having said that the movie has positives it has some negatives too.

Looking at others person's diary is a crime. But what we are seeing in this movie is a diary of people who work under bloodsucking management, but after seeing their miserable life, if we dont respect them, its a biggest crime ever. A supervisor hitting his subordinates, giving sex tortures, people like those do exist and should be thought a lesson. Humans who dont treat others as humans, its such a nasty thing.

Coming to the cast, the whole crew has done well. First the movie's hero , he has did farely a great job when we say its his first movie, but he could have done well in expressions a bit more. He is a suitable one for this character. Secondly, the heroine, katradhu tamil fame "anjali" she has bundles of acting talents. She is beautiful, her expressions speaks so well. Given the right chances, no doubt she will make it to the top. Everytime she cries, tears sprout out naturally with no signs of glycerine.

One more character which moves the story well making it a non boring one is Kana Kanum Kalangal fame "Black Pandi", He does his comedian role well and as well as a friend too. The supervisor role played by Director Venkatesh is a good one. Though it gets all the scoldings from the audiences, he has did the role well indeed as a pevert supervisor. There are small roles which attract attention like the bathrroom cleaner, the muslim Bai, the handicapped person.

Having said all that, Sadness has been squeezed throughout the movie, after a happy sequence a sad sequence automatically follows. Some scenes sound real exaggarated ( Guys fighting for food in that mess ) . It may be real but if its real, then this is not defenitely the 21st century. And Cheers to vasanthabalan for taking this story line. He proves he is unique with the type of story and cast he choses. "angadi" means market where things will be sold. But "Angadi Theru" tells the story of a market where human emotions are sold. Music score by Vijay Antony and G.V Prakash is good. "Aval apdi onrum alagillai...." is a romantic melody rhythming through the ears and will for years! Other songs go along well with the story. But the real hero is the BGM. Especially the flute sound, its so pleasing...The BGM makes the listener feels the emotions. Hats Off for that!

So in my view:

PROS:
1. Anjali's Acting..She steals the screen with expressions
2. Hero and Black pondy's Comedy to keep up the story from boring
3. Life of employees are covered well, though locations are redundant, it doesnt feels odd.

CONS:
1. Exaggeration of sorrow , can see it well in most part of films
2. Some lighter moments which deviates from storyline
3. Climax tragedy could have been avoided. Its not pleaseant to watch it though..

VERDICT : "Next time when you go to Ranganathan Stores or a busy market place, scenes from the movie will creep out. Be sure to smile atleast to the sales people who service you, atleast that would make them happy for a moment in their miserable life. Kudos!!"

P.S : Those who hate sad endings and sad movies dont watch this!!!

Thamizh Padam Vs Goa

The makers of ‘Thamizh Padam’ and ‘Goa’ are waging a funny fight with each other in the form of newspaper advertisements.

It all started when an advertisement by ‘Thamizh Padam’ a few days ago claimed the movie as ‘A C S Amudhan Working Day’, spoofing the tagline of ‘Goa’- ‘A Venkat Prabhu Holiday’.

To counter this, the ‘Goa’ team, which celebrated its 50th day, released an advertisement on Sunday, which read in Tamil: ‘Idhanal than… Idharkaga than…ena engalukkum makkalukkum purindhu vetrigaramaga odikkondirukkum 50vadhu naal’.

For those wondering how Venkat Prabhu & Co countered ‘Thamizh Padam’ team with this ad, the above lines were a spoof of the 50th day ad of ‘Thamizh Padam’, which read: ‘Edhanal, edharkaga, ena engalukkkum, makkalaukkum puriyamal vetrigaramaga odikkondirukkum 50vadhu naal’.

And it is now the turn of ‘Thamizh Padam’ to come out with a reply. Can we expect more fun?

Ayirathil Oruvan Review

First of all I wish Happy Pongal to the Readers!!! I returned home just now after watching "Ayirathil Oruvan", one of the most expected movie of the year. And i should say the film kept me in an amusement even after coming out of the theatre. Dont get the wrong idea that i am going to put only good things about the movie. There are somethings which i want to tell in this review too. We will save that for later. I am not going to tell u the story as it wouldnt be a suspense when u watch it in the theatre.

Selvaraghavan must really be appreciated for his effort to take tamil cinema to the next level. Come to think of it,this film is a bit similiar to Dhasathavaram style both in story telling and as well as technical aspects. The visuals in the movie looks so cool at the wider screen. Computer Graphics have played such a big role throughout the movie. First half was entertaining with Karthi stealing the show with his comedical touches. But the second half has more emotional scenes and slow paced in nature. Its like reading a history book in second half, somemay love history but a bit of trimming could have been done to make the story well poised. I am really impressed with selva's way of story telling. Though the movie states the work is fiction based it does sound real at times.

Coming to the cast, Karthi steals the show in the first half. His dialogue delivery seems to be much better now,but in the second half importance was fully given to parthiban. Reema Sen's role defenitely is the best role that she had done so far. She looks beautiful too. Andrea's character devlopment is not that great,She seems silent for most of the first half and then too. Last but not least Parthiban does an wonderful job in that king's role, he does looks like a psycho(Selva Movie's Trademark) in the beginning. But he has lived that role truly. Second half lacks the essence that is needed to keep the movie up in spirits. The movie is really long too 3.5 hours!! The story says that history will always repeat and whats destined will happen for sure. With 2 heroines,Glamour is spread throughout the movie..(watch it once)

One of the biggest strengths of the movie is Music by G.V.Prakash. 'Un mela Aasaithan..' Song's visuals look so cool. Other songs are pleaseant to hear too. Background music is really great when the lost civilization is shown. Plus the audio matches the video perfectly well for the beats!! I have become a fan of Andrea's Voice after hearing the songs. But her diction is a bit of problem, but thats ok.

For a movie which seemed to be excellent in the first half,it totally turned tables in the second half. Seems selva has lost track with the king part. A happier ending would have been pleaseant, but nevertheless the first step taken by selva for this way of story telling combined with good Computer Graphics of hollywood quality ius defenitely to be appreciated. One thing is for sure, this isnt the ordinary commercial tamil cinema that we have been watching for yrs now.

I dont know why selva is interested in making a character in a story a psycho. Its said that the characters of an authour will be reflected in the characters he make too. Plus violence is spread throughout the movie, but they have made use of computer graphics, which makes deaths as that of in pc sword games.

So in my view :
PROS:
1) Storyline
2) Locations and Computer Graphics
3) Karthi,Reemasen and Parthiban's performance

CONS:
1) Stupidity in second half(watch the final battle in the movie,u will know what im sayin)
2) Slowness in second half, karthi's role led down in second half!!
3) Andrea's less character development

VERDICT:"Defenitely a must watch for history/Fantasy lovers and ppl who expect change in normal tamil cinema"

3 idiots - My Review

First of all Happy New Year 2010 to the Readers!!! The day went in a flash and i finally decided that i could watch 3 idiots today..Its a bit late though, but I waited for the subbed version. As you all know 3 idiots takes its substance from the "Five Point Someone",a famous novel by Chetan Bhagat! When the title screens ruled,I was praying god that the film shouldnt be crappy as "Hello". It was one of my most expected which turned to disappointment. Thank God!!

The story is entirely built on Aamir Khan. He delivers exceptionally well as 'Rancho'. The story brooms mostly in Flash back of his friends Madhavan and Sharman Joshi. The story kicks off where Madhavan and joshi starts travelling to find aamir. Im glad that the director has taken only few scenes from the novel , a thing to be appreciated as a creator. And one more guy who matches his role extremely well is Boman Iranie. To be true i imagined him to be professor cherian while reading 5 pt someone. This role is a piece of cake for him when compared to his experience.

I am sure all Engineers who lived in hostel with their friends will surely miss them after seeing the movie. The story gives an pleaseant ride into the memory of the friends. Kareena has a small role to play with too. And seriously i didnt like the ring on her nose. Humour has been added to the considerable amount and it makes the movie enjoyable. For people who miss their friends, this one will touch ur hearts and for others it would be a good entertainer.

Film Positives :
1) Aamir,madhavan,joshi and irani's performances
2) Humour
3) Omi vaidhya's Performance ( He deserves a mention )
Negatives :
1) Love track could have been stressed a bit more
2) aamir delivering the baby through instructions given in video conferencing (Unrelaistic)
3)Kareena has been wasted with just few scenes

Verdict: "A Must watch for engineers!!! 3.5 stars out of 5"
