Ayirathil Oruvan Review

First of all I wish Happy Pongal to the Readers!!! I returned home just now after watching "Ayirathil Oruvan", one of the most expected movie of the year. And i should say the film kept me in an amusement even after coming out of the theatre. Dont get the wrong idea that i am going to put only good things about the movie. There are somethings which i want to tell in this review too. We will save that for later. I am not going to tell u the story as it wouldnt be a suspense when u watch it in the theatre.

Selvaraghavan must really be appreciated for his effort to take tamil cinema to the next level. Come to think of it,this film is a bit similiar to Dhasathavaram style both in story telling and as well as technical aspects. The visuals in the movie looks so cool at the wider screen. Computer Graphics have played such a big role throughout the movie. First half was entertaining with Karthi stealing the show with his comedical touches. But the second half has more emotional scenes and slow paced in nature. Its like reading a history book in second half, somemay love history but a bit of trimming could have been done to make the story well poised. I am really impressed with selva's way of story telling. Though the movie states the work is fiction based it does sound real at times.

Coming to the cast, Karthi steals the show in the first half. His dialogue delivery seems to be much better now,but in the second half importance was fully given to parthiban. Reema Sen's role defenitely is the best role that she had done so far. She looks beautiful too. Andrea's character devlopment is not that great,She seems silent for most of the first half and then too. Last but not least Parthiban does an wonderful job in that king's role, he does looks like a psycho(Selva Movie's Trademark) in the beginning. But he has lived that role truly. Second half lacks the essence that is needed to keep the movie up in spirits. The movie is really long too 3.5 hours!! The story says that history will always repeat and whats destined will happen for sure. With 2 heroines,Glamour is spread throughout the movie..(watch it once)

One of the biggest strengths of the movie is Music by G.V.Prakash. 'Un mela Aasaithan..' Song's visuals look so cool. Other songs are pleaseant to hear too. Background music is really great when the lost civilization is shown. Plus the audio matches the video perfectly well for the beats!! I have become a fan of Andrea's Voice after hearing the songs. But her diction is a bit of problem, but thats ok.

For a movie which seemed to be excellent in the first half,it totally turned tables in the second half. Seems selva has lost track with the king part. A happier ending would have been pleaseant, but nevertheless the first step taken by selva for this way of story telling combined with good Computer Graphics of hollywood quality ius defenitely to be appreciated. One thing is for sure, this isnt the ordinary commercial tamil cinema that we have been watching for yrs now.

I dont know why selva is interested in making a character in a story a psycho. Its said that the characters of an authour will be reflected in the characters he make too. Plus violence is spread throughout the movie, but they have made use of computer graphics, which makes deaths as that of in pc sword games.

So in my view :
PROS:
1) Storyline
2) Locations and Computer Graphics
3) Karthi,Reemasen and Parthiban's performance

CONS:
1) Stupidity in second half(watch the final battle in the movie,u will know what im sayin)
2) Slowness in second half, karthi's role led down in second half!!
3) Andrea's less character development

VERDICT:"Defenitely a must watch for history/Fantasy lovers and ppl who expect change in normal tamil cinema"

  2. machi our history shows only the positive face of all the kings..... what u learnt in History book is only partially real... they hide many facts from us...
The original character of Tamil kings are well portrayed in that film... Though selva says at the beginning it is pure fictional... I read in many articles about the true lifestyle of old civilization and kings....
